Father Forgive Them!

And Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do” (Luke 23:34)

These remarkable words, Jesus uttered when hanging on the cross for atonement to all who would draw close to Him for salvation. Some scholars suggest that He uttered these words continuously as He underwent the crucifixion. As those around Him became more and more inflamed with devilish hatred toward’s God’s only Son, Jesus in answer being filled with His Father’s compassion for a lost world, would not allow bitterness, pain or self-pity to draw Him away from His Father’s will. As this spiritual battle was raging between good and evil, with all hellish hosts set to oppose the good, He answered against it…interceding before His Father for all mankind again and again. Within His own darkest hours, His words brought life to so many: “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do”.
