Esteem Others

Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself. Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others. (Phil 2:3&4)

Within the book to Philippians, Paul referred in verse 1:1 to himself and Timothy as bondservants of Jesus Christ. Timothy taking after Paul must have lived up to such a high calling. A calling to do nothing through selfish ambition or conceit. Conceit means a type of self-love or vanity. On the contrary we are to esteem others better. Those working with us, we are called to esteem better than ourselves. It is such a life that brings a blessing wherever such a person goes. If we want to take after Godly men, we also need to follow this instruction, as Timothy did.
