A Fatal Exchange

Then Judas Iscariot, who was one of the twelve, went to the chief priests in order to betray Him to them. And when they heard it, they were glad and promised to give him money. And he sought an opportunity to betray Him. (Mark 14:10-11)

A word for today: 25 June 2020

Having a business mind Judas was torn in two. On the one hand he was one of the chosen disciples, and on the other hand he was looking to gain interest wherever he could. A clever and cunning businessman. He was probably disgruntled by the disciples’ and Jesus’ lack of ‘business sense’, yet kept it hidden in his heart. Weighing his options he thought he had a win-win situation. He could gain access to quick gains while also be promoted in the eyes of the pharisees. He thought he had nothing to lose. Yet through this cunning transaction he exchanged his Savior for money, and so squandered his place for all eternity. The way he thought was the most profitable costed in the end his own soul…

This example sets out a firm warning, not to exchange our Savior for anything this world has to offer.
