But lusted exceedingly in the wilderness, And tested God in the desert. And He gave them their request, But sent leanness into their soul. (Psalm 106:14-15)
These words serve as a warning. One can experience a desert situation. Maybe you are stretching to put something on the table for your family. This is like a desert time to you. You might be tempted to think back of your old life, longing for more. Within this portion, the Israelites received what they longed for and requested. They enjoyed their request. However, together with the fulfillment of their desires, leanness of the soul crept in. Life does not consist in the abundance of possessions, but a life hidden in Christ.
