And I say unto you. Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and you shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you. For every one that asks receives; and he that seeks finds; and to him that knocks it shall be opened. If a son shall ask bread of any of you that is a father, will he five him a stone? or if he asks for a fish, will he for a fish give him a serpent? Or if he shall ask an egg, will he offer him a scorpion? If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children; how much more shall your heavenly father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?
Within this portion, we learn something from the Father’s heart towards his children. John Knox knew all about knocking at the Father’s heart. Some suggest that he learned a prayer life while serving as a slave on a galley ship. Bloody Queen Mary stated that she feared his prayers more than the legions of France. Knox once prayed, “give me Scotland or I die”. He was praying for a deep work among his own people. During this covid-19 pandemic, may we also likewise knock on the Father heart of God.
