Guard your steps and focus on what you are doing as you go to the house of God and draw near to listen rather than to offer the [careless or irelevent] sacrifice of fools; for they are too ignorant to know they are doing evil [Gen 35:1-4; Ex 3:5].
Here we find some words of guidance and warning… the way how we walk is important to God, that we walk blameless before Him. As we go about our daily tasks within His work, it is more important to Him that we listen than go into swift action. Obedience is more important to Him than sacrifice. Although we might have been in God’s work for a very long time and may even count it as a sacrifice (although it is an honour), it all means nothing if we don’t listen to Him.
