The Lord Is My Sheperd

1 The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.

2 He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters.

3 He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.

4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.

6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

Some thoughts for 24 April 2020:

This psalm of David provides insight into king David’s relationship with God. Being himself once a shepherd, caring for the need’s of his father’s sheep, David realized as a young man that he can trust the Shepherd of his soul to guide him and and protect him even in the midst of trials and temptations. The shepherd knows his sheep and the sheep know their shepherd. Do you know your Shepherd? Are you treasuring your relationship with your Shepherd, staying close to Him, or have you trailed far behind and in doing so, lost sight of Him?

If so, cry out to your Shepherd today. Or maybe there are some others around you that have been caught in the thicket of sin and are in desperate need of Him to save them. Maybe you are the one to point them to the Great Shepherd that offered Himself as an offering for their guilt and shame. Tell them that they can bring their guilt and shame to Him. He died for it all. Tell them!
