Do Not Be Afraid

“they were troubled, saying “It is a ghost!” And they cried out for fear. But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, “Be of good cheer! It is I; do not be afraid.” (Matt 14:26-27)

The disciples were sent ahead of Jesus. Knowing the sea of Galilee, they could have reasoned that it is not now the time to go. However, in obedience went ahead. As they were crossing, and finding themselves in the middle of the sea, they met up with difficulty. A strong wind arose and their boat was tossed about. Then to their further fright they saw a figure walking on the sea. The sea, the wind and the waves held no power over Him. He did not rush or was held up in His walk. Jesus spoke to them “Be of good cheer! It is I; do not be afraid.” It is when we travel the road of obedience to God, that He reveals Himself in the difficulties we meet up with. How often have we lost out, by trusting our own reasoning, and not following His clear instructions?
