If you love me, keep my commandments. And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you forever; Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it sees him not, neither knows him: but you know him; for he dwells with you, and shall be in you. (John 14:15-17)
Within this text Jesus explains the fundamental truth that if we love Him, that we will keep his commandments. Along with obeying Him comes a promise; the Comforter. It is not a question to do work for Him, but to do His work through Him. Indeed, only one life that will soon be spent, only what has been done through Him will last.
